Is PRP Right for You?

Blood - prp

PRP, which stands for platelet-rich-plasma, is a minimally invasive injectable technique that utilizes a patient’s blood to rejuvenate the skin. Our experienced physician, Dr. Shehla Ebrahim administers PRP to reduce the appearance of common signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkles on the face, neck, jawline, chest, back of the hands, arms, and lips, as well as to stimulate hair growth on the scalp.

Benefits of PRP

This non-surgical treatment offers numerous advantages for individuals who are seeking a more youthful look while avoiding the drawbacks associated with an operation. PRP can improve skin tone and texture, smooth creases, and enhance volume by stimulating the production of natural collagen and elastin. Additionally, PRP is also known to diminish the appearance of acne and surgical scars.

What are the Results?

Designed to provide gradual, natural looking results, PRP should begin to show visible benefits after approximately three weeks. Improvement in skin tone and texture should then continue for the next three to six months. Typically long lasting, studies have shown that the effects of PRP can continue for as long as 18-24 months, depending on your unique anatomy and lifestyle.

What Happens

When you arrive for your initial consultation, Dr. Ebrahim will discuss your areas of concern. They will then develop a customized treatment plan that can best address your needs and goals. After answering any questions you may have, our physicians will draw a small volume of blood (typically less than one ounce) with a syringe. They will then place this fluid into a centrifuge that can separate each element that makes up blood: red blood cells, platelet-rich-plasma, and plasma.

Once the platelet-rich-plasma has been separated, we can then activate the regenerative properties by adding a small portion of calcium to the fluid. This is designed to release growth factors that can speed healing and cell turnover.

Once prepared, we will inject your PRP back into you, targeting the specific areas you designated prior to the treatment. This entire process should take about 45 minutes to one hour, depending on the number of regions you would like to address. Most patients require two to three treatment sessions to optimize the outcome; however, some individuals may require more or fewer to achieve the desired effect. If you love how you look and want to extend the benefits, yearly “touch-up” sessions can help to maintain results.

How PRP Works

Platelets are a type of small blood cell that help stop blood flow after an injury by clumping or clotting. In other words, these small cells can help activate the body’s healing process. When PRP is injected into your skin, this fluid releases enzymes that can draw stem cells to the treated area. These stem cells can then replace the older, damaged cells for a more youthful, revitalized appearance. They can also stimulate collagen growth, which may strengthen and tighten the skin in the same region—as well as the surrounding tissue.
