Injectables for Lines and Folds
Over time, our skin cells begin to regenerate more slowly, leading to less hyaluronic acid and collagen production that provide support, firmness, and moisture for the skin. As a result, fine lines, creases, and folds often begin to develop. The natural process of aging is the most common cause of these unwanted effects; however, environmental stressors, pollution, sun damage, smoking, and genetic predisposition can also be responsible. Dr. Shehla Ebrahim often administers non-surgical cosmetic injectables to help combat the three D’s of aging:
- Deterioration – Pigment, tone, and texture changes in the skin, such as sun spots, broken capillaries, and liver spots (lentigines)
- Deflation – Volume loss, typically under the eyes and around the cheeks
- Descent – Sagging skin resulting from gravity and the gradual loss of elasticity
There are many types of cosmetic injectables available to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and refresh your appearance. Broadly speaking, dermal fillers can be grouped into two categories: temporary and semi-permanent.

Popular temporary dermal fillers, including JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, Teosyal®, and Perlane®, are comprised of hyaluronic acid, a non-allergenic substance naturally produced by the skin. Each formula offers unique benefits, though fillers are generally intended to add volume, smooth lines, and reduce the appearance of other bothersome skin conditions, such as acne scars. Furthermore, treatment can take place in as little as 30 minutes, with results often immediately visible.
Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers offer rapid rejuvenation with little to no downtime or recovery typically necessary. Additionally, many cosmetic fillers incorporate a local anesthetic to help optimize your comfort. Some of the areas commonly treated with cosmetic injectables include:
- Forehead lines
- Brow furrows
- Crow’s feet
- Smoker’s lines (upper lip wrinkles)
- Undereye bags
- Smile lines (nasolabial folds)
- Corners of the mouth
- Marionette lines (from the mouth to the chin)
Some formulas may be able to provide lip enhancement for a fuller, more shapely smile. A customized treatment plan will be developed based on your unique needs and goals.
Semi-Permanent Cosmetic Injectables
Radiesse® for Facial Rejuvenation
Composed of calcium-based microspheres suspended in gel, Radiesse is a biocompatible dermal filler typically utilized to diminish the appearance of nasolabial folds located around the nose and mouth. Radiesse is designed to be longer-lasting than many other types of dermal fillers, often maintaining benefits for up to a year or more. As with other cosmetic injectables, this minimally-invasive treatment will be injected into the skin to produce nearly instant aesthetic enhancement. Over time, your body will slowly break down the calcium and gel, often leaving only natural collagen behind.
Radiesse® for Hand Rejuvenation
The face is not the only location that can be subject to the effects of time. Hand revitalization using Radiesse can help to rejuvenate the back of your hands for a smoother, more youthful look, while also reducing skin laxity and minimizing the appearance of overly prominent veins, tendons, and bones.
Previously, physicians would often administer fat grafts to add volume and diminish signs of aging on the hands. This imperfect process, however, typically required multiple injections and office visits, involved a high level of discomfort, and provided inconsistent results. Furthermore, the patient would have to first undergo a procedure to have fatty tissue collected from a separate location on the body, which could extend the recovery period.
Radiesse offers a non-surgical alternative with results that are often very long-lasting. During the procedure, small amounts of the dermal filler and a local anesthetic will be injected and spread evenly across the back of your hand using a light massage technique. Discomfort should be minimal, and the unique makeup of the Radiesse formula provides nearly immediate enhancement that can last up to a year or longer.
How Much Does Radiesse® Cost?
The price of Radiesse at our practice, whether for facial or hand rejuvenation, is $860 per vial. The amount of product needed to achieve your goals may vary, and we will discuss your treatment plan and how much Radiesse is needed to obtain the desired outcome during your initial consultation. We want you to be well-informed and comfortable with your procedure at all stages, so please don’t hesitate to ask any questions.
